Year 5 students, Emilie, Charlize and Leo, supported by 19 Pilgrim alumni, represented our school with pride. They each showed amazing resilience and persistence to overcome challenges such as near misses with crashes, riding with little sleep, pushing their bodies through tiredness and physical exhaustion to help their team across the line, and completing 307 laps!
The Campus Tornadoes Pedal Prix team had an action packed weekend, beginning early Friday morning in Murray Bridge, with setting up camp and pit areas ready for the 24 hour race. Team and rider briefings, and on track practice sessions, were essential for our riders to learn the track, and also to qualify for great grid positions for the start of the race. Friday night was also Onesie and Oodie night, a team tradition; and a great chance for us to come together socially as a team and briefly relax before the big race.
Saturday was all go with the race starting at 12pm. Riders aimed to complete anywhere from 30 minutes to 1hr in the trike each turn, with 9 -11 riders in each of our three teams. Riders experienced both day time and night time racing, on track with 150 teams, including top adult teams – UniSA and Wattle Racing – as well as interstate teams from QLD, VIC, WA and NSW.
Special thanks to our major sponsors, GoSunny Solar and Dominos Aberfoyle Park for their ongoing support.
Congratulations to the Campus Tornadoes riders and families for an outstanding weekend of racing.
